ARON VECHT & ASSOCIATES

Phosphor & Electronic Display Experts

Specialist Areas

We deal with the following five areas:

Phosphors

  • Novel methods for synthesis of phosphors
  • Cathode ray phosphors
  • Lamp phosphors
  • X-ray phosphors
  • Gas discharge phosphors
  • Low voltage phosphors for FEDs and VFDs

Aron Vecht & Associates has supplied and specifically prepared phosphors for a wide range of applications.  As far as is known, we are the only independent suppliers of phosphors in the United Kingdom and the United States.  Apart from conventional cathode ray and lamp phosphors, we have prepared phosphors for:

  • low energy cathode ray excitation
  • X-ray phosphors
  • storage phosphors
  • and phosphors for gas discharge display
We can supply phosphors for 'markers' for security systems and forensic applications.

Facilities exist for the preparation of a wide range of CRT phosphors, particularly rare earth phosphors such as oxides, oxysulphides, silicates and aluminates.

The preparation of novel compositions can be undertaken, and facilities exist for analytical and structural investigation.

Spectroscopic measurements can be made under electron beam and UV excitation, and preliminary assessments of the efficiency and maintenance characteristics are supplied. Detailed studies of phosphor performance in tubes are not performed.

In addition, licences for patented techniques for the preparation of phosphors may be available.

Display Technology

  • Electroluminescence (AC or DC)
  • Liquid crystals
  • Gas plasmas (AC or DC)
  • LEDs
  • Vacuum fluorescence
  • FEDs

The area of electronic display technology is growing very rapidly and there is now close competition between displays based on

  • electroluminescence (AC or DC)
  • liquid crystals
  • gas plasmas (AC or DC)
  • LEDs
  • FEDs
  • or vacuum fluorescence etc
The choice of displays depends on the particular requirements of a specific application. Advice is therefore given on which choice should be made. Sometimes the wrong choice is made and considerable funds are wasted; for example, we advised most strongly against the use of LEDs in watches.

Thin Film Technology

  • Evaporation
  • Sputtering
  • CVD and OMCVD processes
  • Aerosol spray methods

Advice is given on the choice of thin film deposition technique required for specific applications. Special source materials such as organometallic compounds and materials prepared specially for evaporation have been supplied.  Special and new CVD and aerosol spray methods have been developed.

Aron Vecht & Associates holds patents in novel CVD methods for the preparation of binary, ternary or multinary thin film oxides and sulphides. These are now being evaluated for the preparation of

  • sensors
  • high dielectric ceramics
  • superconductor
  • and electro-luminescent devices

Special Materials

  • Zinc oxide<
  • Zinc sulphide
  • Zinc selenide
  • Cadmium selenide
  • Special ceramics
Optoelectronic and semiconductor materials, as well as special ceramics, materials of controlled stoichiometry and materials doped to specification, are also prepared. We have specialized in II-VI compounds such as:
  • Zinc Sulphide
  • Cadmium Sulphide
  • Zinc Selenide
  • and Cadmium Selenide

Special ceramics are developed as required.

Super Pure Materials

In cases where materials of sufficient purity are not available from the chemical industry, materials have been prepared on request using a variety of techniques, including cross precipitation, organic precipitants, as well as more conventional approaches such as:
  • ion exchange
  • distillation
  • crystal pulling etc
